Plumber, Drainer and Gasfitter Licences Explained
Queensland runs two licence layers for this trade: an occupational licence for the person on the tools, and a contractor licence for the business carrying the job, and the QBCC issues both. The first proves tradecraft. The second proves the business behind the work can run jobs lawfully.
Three licence classes sit inside that system, each covering different work:

covers plumbing work on the property, apart from anything needing its own endorsement.
Drainer
covers drainage work below ground level, again outside endorsed work.
Gasfitter
gas work sits on its own licence. Queensland allows only a licensed gasfitter to install, alter, repair, service, test or certify a gas system and its pipework.
Before any gas job begins, an owner is entitled to sight that gas work licence. Ask us on the day; we'll show it.
Who Checks Plumbing Work and What You Receive
Two bodies share the checking: the QBCC issues licences and records notifiable jobs, while the City of Moreton Bay assesses applications, grants permits and inspects. You can also ask the council to inspect notifiable work at any stage.
Regulated work splits into permit work, notifiable work and minor work, and a licensed plumber or drainer must do all three. The paperwork you receive depends on the job:
Form 4
after notifiable work, you or the person who engaged us gets a copy. If it never arrives, the QBCC can supply one.
Gas certificate
when gas work on a new install or alteration finishes, the gasfitter hands you the compliance certificate straight away and sends a copy to the gas network operator within 5 days.
